VC SKUAST attends farmers scientists interaction at Leh

SRINAGAR: Vice Chancellor, SKUAST (K), Prof. J. P. Sharma attended farmers scientists interaction at High Mountain Arid Agriculture Research Institute, Stakna Leh Ladakh. Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Dr. Dil Mohd Makhdomi addresses the activities of KVKs of Ladakh region.
He appreciated HMAARI and Research Station for adopting Singay Lalok area which is remote and underprivileged area as as TSP cluster village. He also compared the decade time when there was no awareness on vegetable growing and now the types of awareness is appreciable. He also appreciated the evaluation of vegetable varieties and the kind of research undertaken by both HMAARI and KVK. Dr.Dorjay Namgyal, Associate Director (R&E) HMAARI, Leh presented various research and developmental activities of the Institute. During the event the Package of Practices (POP) on vegetable production was released through dignitaries. One month Skill Development Programme certificates on “Vermicompost Producer”& “Organic Grower” were also distributed among the students/entrerprenure.
In his address, he mentioned making a development plan for every district within fifteen days. He also instructed the Associate Director to submit mega project under Protected cultivation, value addition, marketing, micro irrigation system so that extension beyond production would be achievable. He stressed upon entrepreneurship development, FPO formation and hi-tech technologies which can fulfil the dream of doubling the farmers income. He stressed KVKs for commodity based association which would be the real welfare to the society.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K distributed farm machinery and apricot harvest net to trans Singela farmers of Lingshed, Photoksar,Dibling & Nerak villages under TSP Leh. Bucks also distributed to farmers of Gia village under AICRP-Changthangi Goat project. The dignitaries visited the experimental field of HMAARI and KVK Leh. He was appraised about the various technologies developed and demonstrated at PFDC Leh. He also appreciated HAMAARI Leh for introducing apiculture (Bee Keeping) in the region.
