SRINAGAR: Wahab FC Hajin lifts 1st Champions trophy when it downed Babar Raza Sopore by 2-1 at the sports ground Gundjahangir on Saturday.
WFCH dominated the proceeding and had maximum ball possession from the word go they took lead in the 20 minute of first half when their striker Wahid Basu, put the ball in the net and made it 1-0 till teams went for break with score-line 1-0 in favour of WFCH.
There was nothing to choose between the two sides. If it were WFCH who controlled the first half, FC Babar Raza Sopore didn’t give them an inch in the second half.
Trailing by 1-0, FC Babar Raza changed the pace of the game and played aggressively and dominated the proceedings in the second half of the game having maximum ball possession
It took only ten minutes in the second half for the FC Babar Raza to level the score as equalizer came from Waseem Ahmad who shot the ball into the goal to make it 1-1.
FC Babar Raza made several moves in search of taking lead from both the flanks but failed to convert them into the goal, in the dying minutes of the game Wahid Basu from WFCH scored a stunner to make it 2-1 and seal the deal for Wahab Sports Hajin.
FC Babar Raza tried their best to find the equalizer but the goalkeeper of Wahab Sports Hajin blocked their every move by saving the impossible goals.
As referee blew the final whistle scorline remained 2-1 which favoured Wahab sports Hajin,SDM Sumbal Doctor Bashir Ahmad ,DFA President Zone Hajin Asim Aijaz ,Zahid Zubir Zubir,Aftab Aijaz,Abdul Ahad Basu were among the chief guests who were watching the final and distributed the prize among the winners and runners up.
Wahid Basu was declared player of the match while his brother Sajiid Basu was awarded Player of the tournament for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament .
A large number of spectators had thronged in the ground and to watch the stunning final between two best teams and support their favourites .
The tournament was organised by Sports Development Authority Gundjahangir in collaboration with DFA Zone Hajin.
