NRLM organizes financial literacy camp at Gund

GANDERBAL: National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) Umeed organized a financial literacy camp at Gund area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District on Wednesday.
Officials said that the purpose of the camp is to analyze the progress made on SHG’s and also deliberate on various other issues. They said the camp will help bankers and the SHG members to directly interact with each other and give feedback on the existing system of finance to the SHGs that will help banks and the department to improve.
Speaking on the occasion Block Program Manager (UMEED) Kangan Javid Ahmed Parray presented an overview of activities, approach and achievements of UMEED-NRLM, particularly in the area of financial inclusion.
He said the UMEED under NRLM focuses on women empowerment through various programmes including financial inclusion and sustainable livelihoods.
He added that the financial literacy is one of the important strategies to keep SHGs’ and households’ aware about relevant financial services and to build their utilisation capacity at the same time.
Javid said that the provision of SHGs in UMEED scheme provides woman’s a platform to become entrepreneurs and nurture them till they come out of poverty and enjoy a decent quality of life.
Facilitator FLCC Hakeem Nazir informed the audience about financial planning, savings, advantages of savings with banks, concept of Business Correspondents, khidmat centres, difference between formal and informal source of borrowings and different type of borrowings.
He also deliberated upon Kissan Credit Card Scheme, Education loan scheme and various income generating loan products of banks besides Electronic Benefit Funds Transfer.
Financial Literacy Awareness Camp was attended by Jibran Rashid DPM(FI) JKRLM and Nisar Ahmad Lead District Manager Ganderbal, village sarpanch among others were present.
However The J&K Bank Branch Gund representative assured to every possible help to the SHG Members.
