Kupwara: A leopard was found seriously injured along a road in Nowgam area of Handwara in Kupwara district on Saturday.

Officials in the wildlife department said that they received information that a dead leopard had been spotted in Nowgam Handwara on Saturday. Soon after, a team of wildlife department reached the spot and found the leopard in an injured condition.

“We lifted the animal and took it to hospital for treatment, but its condition is very serious. We saw several injury marks on its body. It might have been hit by a vehicle in the wee hours. We have shifted the animal to hospital for treatment,” a senior official of the wildlife department said.

A video clip had also gone viral on social media in which a leopard was spotted lying motionless along the road and a large number of people, including some policemen, had surrounded the animal. People were seen making videos and taking photographs of the animal.
