Hajin: Residents of Bonkikhan Mohalla Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday held a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for failing to provide adequate drinking water.
The protesters, mostly women, blocked the Hajin-Spore road for hours together and disrupted the traffic moment to draw attention of the authorities towards their problems.
The aggrieved residents said they are not getting drinking water regularly causing huge problems to them.
Raja, a woman protester, told Kashmir Reader that we are not being provided safe drinking water regularly in these summer months and the women in the area bear most of the brunt as they have to get water for their daily use from distant places.
She added that they have brought the matter to the concerned department but no attention is being paid towards their grievance which forced us to hit the streets.
The local women have to walk miles to fetch drinking water from the river, the taps are dry for many days now and the department is not taking any measures to resolve the problem. besides that they ahev to consume polluted water, raising fear of water borne diseases as well.Gowhar Maqbool < hajin
