Mechanical harvesting of oats held at DARS Rangreth

Srinagar: Director Extension Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi along with Associate Director Extension (I&P) Prof. Sheikh Muzaffar Ahmad paid a visit to oversee the mechanical harvesting of oats seed and its maintenance of purity during its harvesting for subsequent distribution to KVKs and development department during Kharief 2021-22.
Under the guidance of Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST who has been instrumental in advocating and placing in order the man and machine aiming at reducing Post harvest losses for which a harvesting combine was facilitated in this centre.
Director Extension interacted with the scientists of the station and lauded the efforts of the station in the development of high yielding quality field crop varieties viz-a-viz maize, pulses and fodder. He also appreciated the developments made in the nut centre by way of developing an orchard of SKUAST released varieties/selections of Almond and walnut.
He also expressed his satisfaction on the collaborative efforts of DARS Budgam with KVKs of SKUAST-Kashmir for achieving the breakthrough in the outreach programmes of the University resulting in the enhancement of economic and nutritional prosperity of the farmers.
Director Extension Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi stressed upon the strengthening of the monitoring of FLDs laid by DARS Budgam in collaboration with KVKs during Kharief2021 to assess the performance and impact of the improved technologies at the grass root level. He also provided valuable inputs regarding the mechanization of crop production with proper threshing facilities and assured the station of full support.
