CUK’s WEC holds lecture on ‘importance of personality dev, confidence building, and interview skills’

Ganderbal: Women’s Empowerment Committee (WEC), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised an interactive lecture on “Importance of Personality Development, Confidence Building, and Interview Skills”, by Trainer and Educationist, Dr. Kanchan Negi for the female faculty members, staff, research scholars and students of the university through both offline and online mode at Green Campus here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir lauded the WEC team for holding the interactive lecture and underscored the need of conducting more such programmes in the university in future. He said the students have been facing difficult and torrid times due to Covid-19 pandemic as they have been confined to their respective homes. “Motivational, personality development and confidence building lectures would boost their morale and would enable them to overcome the lows of life,” he said.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Kanchan Negi said that Islam has given highest stature, respect and regard to women and has protected all their rights. “Islam has empowered women since times immemorial and the need of the hour is to implement the teachings of Quran and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in letter and spirit in the matters and issues pertaining to women folk,” Dr. Kanchan said. She further talked about many aspects of personality development in women and varied measures of confidence building among them. Recognizing the significance of the potentialities and the dynamism among women, she equally emphasized the need for awareness about their rights and status in the society in order to achieve the goal of gender equality. She lauded the support of men in the society for standing with the women and their pivotal role in empowering the women. She also discussed the issues of stress management and good interview skills. She informed about the importance of personality development, stress management for all, and particularly to women who face multiple struggles in all phases of life. Dr. Kanchan Negi held an interactive session with the participants and responded to their queries.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, while addressing the participants, asked them to interact with the expert without inhibitions and ask questions to clear their doubts. “Women in the contemporary times are brimming with confidence and are competing with their male counterparts in all the professional fields,” he said and quoted examples of several women who have carved a niche for themselves.
Former chairperson-WEC, Prof. Parveen Pandit, said that there is a need to train and equip the women to face multiple challenges and also those arising out of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Moderators, Prof. Nighat Basu, Dr. Sakina Akhter, Gulafroz Jan and Insha Farooq during their speeches also discussed various roles and challenges confronted by the women in families, society and workspace.
Asst. Prof. Department of Politics and Governance, Dr. Himabindu, conducted the programme proceedings while as Asst Prof. Department of Zoology, Dr. Ibraq Khursheed, proposed the vote of thanks.
