Police seize two truck of PDS rice in Pattan illegally routed to open market

Two divers arrested, case registered

BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla on Tuesday seized 366 bags of rice loaded in two trucks operating for FCI and held its drivers involved in black marketing.
A senior police official said that, on a specific information police station Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Zaffar Mehdi, a team of police seized 366 bags of rice in two trucks bearing registration number JK02V-6397 and JK09-3233 driven by Mohammad Jamal Hajam son of Abdul Gaffar Hajam resident of Madmadow Kalaroos Kupwara and Jahangir Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Aziz Bhat of Bumhama Kupwara respectively loaded with FCI rice plying from FCI Baramulla towards Srinagar at a Naka established on highway near Hanjiwera Pattan.
According to police the challan mentioned that the rice has been loaded from FCI Godown Kralhar Baramulla and was meant to be transported to Kulangam Kupwara. However instead of taking the rice to Kupwara they were on their way to Srinagar for black marketing of said rice.
In this regard a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Pattan, both the drivers are in police custody and further investigation is on. He said.
