Ten drug peddlers held, five cases registered in Bla: Police

BARAMULLA: Baramulla police on Monday said that they arrested ten drug peddlers and registered five cases against them in the past ten days.
In a statement, they said that, in an action undertaken by police station Kreeri under the supervision of Tariq Mehmood SDPO Kreeri arrested two drug peddlers Aaqib Nazir son of Nazir Ahmad Kaloo and Owais Ahmad Shikari son of Bashir Ahmad Shikari of Sher Colony Sopore at Kreeri market and recovered contraband 1.5 kg of Poppy Straw like substance from their possession. In this regard, a case under sections of NDPS Act has been registered in the concerned police station and investigation is going on.
It further said that police station Pattan under the supervision of Zaffar Mehdi SDPO Pattan arrested two drug peddlers namely Mohammad Akram Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat of Pethgam Wagoora Kreeri and Khursheed Ahmad Mir son of Ali Mohammad Mir of Saloosa Kreeri at Zangam Pattan and recovered contraband 1Kg of Charas like substance from their possession.
In this regard, the case has been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is on.
Moreover, in action undertaken by police station Baramulla under the supervision of Syed Sajad Hussain Bukhari DySP Hqrs arrested four drug peddlers Sohain Hamid son of Abdul Hamid Patigroo of Warpora Sopore presently resident of Ushkara Baramulla, Abdul Majeed Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir of Bagh-e-Islam Baramulla, Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Hamid Lone of Ladoora Rohama Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Dar @ Mun Dar son of Abdul Satar Dar of Ganie Hamam Baramulla and recovered Codeine 126 bottles from their possession. In this regard, cases under sections of NDPS act have been registered in the concerned police station and investigation taken up.
Similarly, in an action undertaken by police station Kunzer under the supervision of Hilal Khaliq SDPO Tangmarg arrested two drug peddlers Farooq Ahmad Lone son of Gulam Ahmad Lone of Khochipora Tangmarg and Aijaz Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rehman Mir resident of Pandithpora Tangmarg at Dhobiwan and recovered contraband 700 grams of Charas like substance from their possession. A case has been registered against the duo.
The police statement said that the constant pressure was mounted upon the drug peddlers to curb this menace, which resulted in decline in drug trafficking in the district during the month of May, 2021.
During the month of May, Baramulla police arrested 28 drug peddlers, registered 12 cases and seized narcotic substances worth 2.2 crores approximately.
