18th SAC meeting held at KVK Leh, and Nyoma

Srinagar: The 18th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting was conducted at KVK Leh and Nyoma. The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor SKUAST J&K Prof J P Sharma and Co-chaired by Director Extension SKUAST-K Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomiand Director Research Prof Sarfaraz Ahmed . Among others Programme coordinators KVK Leh and KVK Nyoma, Scientific staff of the KVKs;Executive Councillors of agriculture and Horticulture; Officers from the line departments and progressive farmers attended the meeting.
Prof J P Sharma Vice Chancellor SKUAST J&K applauded the KVKs and research stations for their dedicated work and commendable performance.He expressed happiness over the preparation of the vision documents and directed the Executive Councillors to include Director Extension and Director Research SKUAST-K as permanent members in their committees. He reiterated his support in making KVKs as the certification agencies with the support from ICAR. The increase in the area under organic farming since the past 6 years from 8 to 18 hectares at the KVK was appreciated by Prof Sharma. The Vice Chancellor highlighted the decreased use of pesticide and fertilizers in the UT as compared to the rest of India and the western world. He advised that line departments sto remain in close association with theKVK . He appreciated the farm friendly protected Agriculture and bottle polyhouses developed on 126 hectares of HAAMARI. He suggested the convergence of Kazri Leh,development departments of SKUAST-K with the Union territory of Leh.
Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdhoomi, Director Extension extended full support to farmers , for training and transfer of technology. He expressed satisfaction over working at KVK Leh, Nyoma HAAMARI leh and precision research centre. He stressed upon KVK functionaries to facilitate farmers by linking them with various schemes launched by different Govt and Private Agencies.
Director Research Prof Sarfaraz Wani reteirated the G1 tagging of apricot ,Development of Bio control lab in collaboration with the Divisions and promotion of technology Milk and milk products.Presentation was given by PC KVKs.
Executive Counsillor Gh.Mehdi laid stress on blue revolutions in KVK and at research level
StanzinChospel Executive councillor Agriculture offered to sponsor two progressive farmers for boarding and lodging and suggested that training programmesshould be framed keeping in view requirement of their department.
