‘Scientific Training on Beekeeping’ started at KVK Ganderbal

SRINAGAR: Keeping in view the importance of beekeeping and to achieve the goal of “Sweet Revolution” Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal started a seven days training programme on “Scientific Training on Beekeeping” on Tuesday. The training is sponsored by National Bee Board (NBB) under National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) Mini Mission-I. The aim of the training is overall promotion and development of scientific beekeeping vis-a-viz production of quality honey and other beehive products.
The participants and guests were formally welcomed by Dr. Pervaiz A Dar, Scientist (AS) on the inaugural function. Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Parray, Incharge Pollination Centre, SKUAST-K who was the chief guest on the occasion, presented the overall scenario of beekeeping in Kashmir, historical perspective, strengths/weakness, avenues for entrepreneurship in the sector and shared some success stories from the valley among the participants.
Dr Javid Ahmad Bhat, Senior Scientist &Head, KVK Ganderbal highlighted the role of KVK in entrepreneurship development by imparting skill training to the rural youth and briefed about the advantages of the beekeeping both on economic and environmental front. He stressed on the rural youth of the district to upscale their skills in agriculture related enterprises through skill development programmes being conducted by the KVK.
Irfan Gul, Officer from Agriculture department of district Ganderbal, familiarized the participants about the successful bee keepers in the district and assured them every help in their startup journey in the bee keeping enterprise with different schemes provided by the Govt of India from time to time.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, Coordinator of the training programme presented the outline of the training programme and briefed about the daily programme schedule.
The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Shafat Ahmad Banday, Scientist (Horticulture)of Kendra.
The training is the first of the series of six training programmes to be conducted by the Kendra on scientific beekeeping during the year under Mini Mission -I (NBHM).
