Abid Hussain wins GDC Pulwama annual road race

SRINAGAR: The Department of Physical Education and Sports GDC Pulwama organised the Annual Road Race 2021 from Murran Chowk Pulwama to Kakapora on Saturday.
Around 70 students of the college participated in the race which was flagged off by the Principal GDC Pulwama, Prof Farooq Ahmad Andrabi at 6:15 am. The athlete students started the race with great enthusiasm.
It was Mir Abid Hussain who finished first. Sajad Ahmad Yatoo and Shahid Bashir finished second and third respectively. Throughout the whole distance, the athletes tried their level best to take lead from the rest. Mir Abid Hussain, who stood first, crossed the finish line with the timing of 38:10:61 having comfortable lead of 400m from number two finisher. Sajad crossed the finish line second with timing of 40:06:92 and Shahid Bashir bagged third place with the timing of 40:30:15.
After the conclusion of race, prize distribution ceremony was organized at GDC Pulwama. The prizes were given away to the first five position holders.
Speaking on the ocassion Principal GDC Pulwama said, “I am proud that we have such talented players in our college. I hope they will bring laurels for the college in inter-college and inter-university level competitions.”
All the members of the College Sports Board, the staff of the Department of Physical Education of the College were actively involved to make this event a success. The local fund employees did a great job in making the arrangements. Their support is duly acknowledged. Kakapora Police were on their toes in seeing that no traffic movement was there to thwart the movement of the running athletes. They have always shown concern whenever the college has asked for some help. Dr. Faesal Sualeh Heyat, PTI of the college is the real force behind all this success. Meanwhile the Annual College Cycle Race for the college students is scheduled to be held on the 3rd of April 2021.
