Anganwadi workers, helpers hold protest, demand wages, increase in honorarium

SRINAGAR: The Anganwadi Workers and Helpers working in the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) on Wednesday held a protesting demonstration here in Srinagar demanding the government to release their pending wages and increase of their honorarium.
The protesting Anganwadi workers and helpers from the various districts of the Kashmir Valley assembled here in the press enclave and chanting the slogans in favor of their genuine demands.
The protesting women said that they are working in the ICDs department upon the posts of the workers and helpers are getting the low honorarium through which they are not fulfilling their basic needs in their homes. Masooda Majeed, one of the protesting women said that the honorarium of the most Anganwadi workers and helpers in the different projects is still pending.
“We are getting very low honorarium through which we are not fulfilling the basic demands and needs in our families,” She said.
She said that the Anganwadi workers and helpers are performing their duties regularly. But they did not get any kind of benefits which the other employees are getting in the different government departments.
“The rates of the items in the markets are increasing day by day like bus fares and gas cylinder. But we are still receiving the low honorarium which the government has fixed before a few years ago. How it is possible for us, we can run our families upon this low honorarium in this modern society,” She added.
The protesting women said that the government should increase the honorarium of the Anganwadi workers and helpers. But it should be released on a monthly basis. The protesting workers and helpers have requested the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and increase their honorarium.
