Casual, daily wagers hold protest, demand wages as per Wage Act

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Casual Labours and Daily Wagers Forum on Monday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar against the government, demanding the government to release their pending wages and implementation of the minimum wages act in favor of all temporary employees which are working in different government departments across Jammu and Kashmir.
The protesting temporary employees from the various areas of the Kashmir valley assembled here in press enclave under the banner of J&K Casual Labours and Daily Wagers forum and holding placards and banners in their hands which reads “Sacrifice of Mohammad Riyaz PHE Daily wager will not get wasted”, ” We want justice ” And “release our pending wages”.
President of the J&K Casual Labours and Daily Wagers Forum, Sajjad Ahmad Parray said that the daily wagers and casual labours which are working in the different government departments are without wages.
“We are demanding the government to release our pending wages and implementation of the minimum wages act in favour of all the casual labours and daily wagers across Jammu and Kashmir, ” He said.
Parray said that the daily wagers and casual labours are facing the financial crisis in their homes. Due to non-availability of the money they are not in the position to fulfill the basic demands and needs of their family members.
“We have been working in the department for the last 15 years in different departments, but are not getting any benefits which other permanent employees are getting through the department, ” He said.
Parray further said one of daily wagers from Poonch Riyaz Ahmad who was working in the PHE division Jammu committed suicide.
“The government is not fulfilling the demands of the casual labours and daily wagers which results in one of the daily wagers having ended his life, ” He added.
The protesting casual labourers and daily wagers requested the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to look into the matter and implementation of the minimum wages act for all temporary employees.
