9 shopkeepers fined Rs 1,31000 for selling substandard items in Tral

Tral: The court of Adjudicating Officer Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tral, Shabir Ahmad Raina, imposed a fine of rupees one lakh and thirty one thousand on nine shopkeepers in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.
The shopkeepers were fined for selling different eatables of substandard quality.
Giving details, Food Safety Inspector of concerned area, Zahoor Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader the cases were submitted before the court of Additional Deputy Commissioner Tral for disposal.
“The Additional Deputy Commissioner Tral Shabir Ahmad Raina while deciding the cases of erring shopkeepers disposed nine cases on the spot and fined them for rupees one lac and thirty one thousand under Food Safety and Standards Act 2006,” the officer said.
The Food Safety Officer further told Kashmir Reader that they received analytic reports of nine samples from food laboratory Jammu.
“The analytical reports depict one sample as standard, two misbranded and five substandard,” he said, adding the substandard items include honey and plum.
He added that they found sucrose and ash contents in the substandard items, Food safety officer said.
A routine market checking drive was also conducted in Tral during which notices were served to various food business operators who were functioning without registration and licenses.
