Govt orders probe in Shopian MNREGA job card scam

Shopian: The government on Wednesday ordered an enquiry to verify the reports of job card scam in Hirpora village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Kashmir Reader on Wednesday reported that minor children have been registered as labourers to siphon off funds under the MNREGA employment scheme. The scam came to fore after some children were denied free admission in coaching centres under the government’s quota for reserved category students.
An official handout said Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Shopian has ordered enquiry over allegations of issuance of job cards in favour of the minors/students at Panchayat Halqa Hirpora.
It said that the enquiry was called after a complaint was received on 2 February, 2021 about the issue. It said that ACD constituted a committee to investigate the matter and the committee was directed to submit the report within five days.
Meanwhile, the concerned three employees of Panchayat Halqa Hirpora were attached to ACD office Shopian till the investigation gets completed. “It was given that if at all, anything found illegal, action will be taken as per law against the accused,” it said.
