BANDIPORA: A daylong training cum awareness programme on Forest Rights Act (FRA)-2006 was today organized at Dawar Gurez under the supervision of SDM Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad.
On the occasion, SDM highlighted the aim and objectives of the act and said that effective implementation of FRA 2006 will empower the forest dwellers and will give them their rights. He emphasized upon the concerned authorities to work in coordination so that any kind of impediment is sorted out in a hassle-free manner.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Gurez, Imtiyaz Ahmad gave a detailed account of Forest Rights Act-2006 and highlighted various aspects associated with it, through the powerpoint presentation.
He briefed the participants in detail about the salient features of the Act and the rules including the preamble, the forest dwelling communities, the constitution and functions of the 3 tier system of committees at the district, sub divisional and gram Panchayat level and the procedure to be followed for inviting, acknowledging and processing the claims under the Act.
Despite Sub-Zero temperature and heavy snow in the area, a large number of PRI members attended the training programme.
