WGAJK to organize South Kashmir,UT Ski championships

Srinagar: Winter Games Association of J&K is going to organize South Kashmir Ski Championship in collaboration with Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports at Pahalgam on 22nd January, a statement issued by the WGAJK said.
According to the statement athletes of all categories from south Kashmir districts would take part.
“The Championship is being held here with an aim to encourage a spirit of winter sports amongst local youth, it added.”
“Winter sports are not as popular in South Kashmir Districts as in North Kashmir because they don’t have much facilities available there for these sports,” it added.
All the participants shall report at JIM&WS at 9 am to collect the skis and thereafter report on the ski slope at Pahalgam. Since there are limited skis available the participants must bring their own equipment. The equipment will be issued on first come and first basis.
The forms can be submitted on spot but the athletes must bring a PP size photograph and DOB certificate. For juniors the age categories are born 2000-01-02; 03-04; 05-06; and 07-08.
Besides, the WGAJK has decided to hold 3 daylong Union Territory Championship at Gulmarg from 28th Jan. Muhammad Yusuf, Gen Secretary WGAJK informed that all those skiers who perform better in regional championships shall be selected to participate in upcoming Union Territory Ski championship scheduled to be held at Gulmarg from 28th January.
