Farmer-Scientist Interaction under ATMA held at Kupwara

Srinagar: District Sheep Husbandry Office, Kupwara organized a farmer-scientist interaction at City Park Handwara under State Extension Program for Extension Reforms (ATMA) scheme. The program was chaired by Dr Hyder Kazimi, DSHO Kupwara and moderated by Dr Peerzada Altaf, Technical Officer to DSHO. Experts (Prof Masood S Mir- Associate Director Extension, Animal Sciences; Dr Aijaz A Dar; Prof Hilal Musadiq; Dr Mehraj ud din Naikoo and Dr Javid Farooq) from Directorate of Extension, SKUAST Kashmir and Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Shuhama threw light on various aspects of Sheep Farming in Kashmir Valley.
Topics like General management of sheep and goats, winter feeding, reproductive disorders, disease diagnosis and preventive health measures were discussed during the meeting. A thorough discussion was held on scientific sheep rearing given the tough challenges faced by this sector and the way forward to make this sector a profitable and a sustainable enterprise.
A question answer session was also held in which the experts responded to the queries raised by the sheep breeders. The farmers appreciated the efforts of the Department of Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir and SKUAST Kashmir. They demanded such programs be conducted on a regular basis besides exposure visits to various sheep farms of the valley and to the venture specific registered and reputed entrepreneurs.
