Agriculture Dept celeberates ‘National Farmers Day’

Srinagar: In order to celebrate National Farmers Day, Department of Agriculture Kashmir organized various events across the valley. Director Agriculture Kashmir Manzoor Ahmad Qadri extended heartiest greetings to the farmers. In his message to the farming community he said this day is being celebrated to decorate farmers for their contribution towards making a self reliant nation in terms of food security. He further added that the farmers are our real heroes who produce food, and life is sustained due to their efforts.
Amongst different celebrations held on the occasion a function to commemorate the same was held at Chief Agriculture Office Srinagar.
Project Coordinator Mushrooms / JD Farooq Ahmad Shah inaugurated the function in presence of progressive farmers and growers at district headquarter Srinagar. While interacting with the farmers Project Coordinator Mushroom appreciated the role of farmers in adopting modern techniques for increasing production and productivity. He said the prosperity of a nation depends upon the well-being of the farming community, “when a farmer is strong country is strong” he said and added.
Shah stressed upon the officers to reach the farmers collectively and provide every kind of advice on real time basis as per area specialty and market availability. He said it is the prime responsibility of our Department and officers need to see the interest of farmers and demand in the market to achieve the goal of doubling farmers’ income. Emphasis to adopt area based, product based, integrated farming system and cultivate high value crops with value addition to increase the income was laid down on the occasion. He stressed upon the farmers to brand their product and adopt cooperative based market linkage so that the Agriculture sector is made more remunerative.
On the occasion Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Amir ud din Andrabi while highlighting the importance of the day said that this day is being celebrated in honour of late Choudhary Charan Singh’s birthday who was a great farmer leader and 5th prime minister of the country.
During the event participating farmers appreciated the gesture of the Department, and said that the agriculture department is always at the back of the farming community and conducting of such programs is a key to that.
