World Disability Day: Voluntary Medicare Society holds Unified Car Rally

Srinagar: Voluntary Medicare Society or VMS, is over 50 years old NGO working for rehabilitation of Persons With Disabilities (PwDs) including education of special children today launched 3 days celebrations as part of World Disability Day with the flagging off a first of its kind Unified Car Rally for Persons with Disabilities and without any disability.
According to the VMS founder and president Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool, the Car Rally is aimed at sensitizing drivers about the controlling speed and steering clear of the PwDs driven vehicles to ensure safety of life and property on roads and at the same time inculcating safety habits among the PwDs driving vehicles on busy roads while moving to and fro their work places. One of the main purposes of the Unified Car Rally was to lay emphasis on the use of logos on the vehicles in use of PwDs and its recognition by ordinary drivers, added Dr. Maqbool.
Giving details he said that the Unified Car Rally with 20 participants participating was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Dr. Samia Rashid, Principal Govt. Med College, Srinagar from VMS,Campus, Bemina in presence of guests of honour Satish Vimal of All India Radio Srinagar and Sandeep Singh Bali, Asstt. Commissioner Revenue Srinagar.
After moving through different places returned to VMS campus from Polo View and back with ambulances in front and one tailing it. The rally was monitored all along the route by volunteers and personnel from Traffic Police.
In view of the Pandemic VMS also organized online consultations, responded queries for Children with Special Needs and PwDs which was inaugurated by Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool which concluded at 4.00 pm. The programme was also beamed on official Face Book page of VMS. The VMS has arranged an interaction of faculty and students, PwDs with leading FM channels like
R.J Mehak presented live show in the morning highlighting experiences and hardships faced by children with special needs and adults during the obtaining pandemic SARS-Covid -19. She also accompanied the Unified Car Rally from VMS Bemina to Poloview
A similar programme is being organized on Saturday Dec 5th with various TV Channels in which persons with Spinal Cord injuries and Students of Shafaqat Inclusive School Particularly class 8th( Board Exam students) will share their experiences during the present Pandemic Covid-19. The three days programme includes lectures on Disability issues by VMS faculty, felicitation program for students of class 8th, wheelchairs Basket Ball and Para Sports team Players.
