Fire damages old hospital building in Shopian

SHOPIAN: Fire damaged the indoor patient department (IPD) section of the government district hospital in Shopian. The old building of the hospital which is the only accommodation of indoor patients house the operation theater was also situated in the same building.
According to the health official fire and emergency department the fire breaks out around 1am on Saturday night causing major damages to the roof of the building.
They said that with the swift action by the health official all the patients in the wards were evacuated to the nearby private hospital without any injuries to anyone.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Choudary Muhammad Yasin said that short circuit was the possible reason for the cause of fire. “We will accommodate the necessary utilities to the new building,” he said adding that the fire has caused damages to the old building and there are water leakages as well.
Pertinently the new hospital building lacks ramp and lift arrangements which would cause major problems to the patients having surgeries, pregnant ladies and other serious ailments.
