SKUAST-Kashmir celebrates ‘Kiwi fruit day’

SRINAGAR: Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir in collaboration with Division of Fruit Sciences organized “Kiwi Fruit Day” at main campus Shalimar. Officers of the University, Heads of Divisions, KVK Scientists and progressive orchardists from various districts of the valley participated in the event. The aim of this event was to highlight the economic potential of Kiwi fruit in Kashmir valley and to popularize/familiarize the progressive orchardists about its scientific cultivation. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad, Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor in his inaugural address emphasized on the nutritive and medicinal values of Kiwi fruit particularly in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also laid stress on crop diversification as a way forward to meet the challenges posed by climate change and as means for doubling the farmers’ income. On the occasion harvest of Kiwi Fruit was also inaugurated at SKUAST – K farm. Farmer-Scientist Interaction followed the on-farm visit. Prof. Khalid Mushtaq, Head Division of Fruit Sciences, presented the welcome address and briefed about the importance of celebrating this day. Dr Nowsheen Nazir, threw light on scientific cultivation of the Kiwi Fruit. Prof. Shameem A. Simnani presented a vote of thanks.
