JKTA questions grand training programme for already trained teachers

SRINAGAR: The Jammu Kashmir Teachers’ Association (JKTA) on Monday questioned the relevance of the ongoing government of India training programme for teachers in the region, majority of whom they said were already trained.
The Integrated Multidisciplinary Professional Advancement Course for Teachers (IMPACT) aims to train over 34,000 erstwhile Rehbar e Taleem teachers now regularised by the government as Grade II and Grade III teachers in three phases- Face-to-face interaction, 21 day’s field work and assessment and reflection.
But Chairman JKTA, Shah Fayaz, who addressed a press conference at the Kashmir Press Club on Monday alleged discrimination at the hands of the J&K government between general line teachers and Grade II and Grade III teachers.
The IMPACT training, which ideally should cater to untrained teachers as per the guidelines, are irrelevant for most of the Grade II and Grade III teachers, Fayaz said.
He said that the development had created confusion among teachers ninety percent of whom had already qualified B Ed, M Ed and D Ed courses.
Fayaz further questioned why the government had singled out Grade II and Grade III teachers for the training if it was supposed to be a capacity building programme for all the teachers.
“We are not against trainings, but there should be no discrimination in the name of trainings,” he said.
Fayaz further said that there was also a “huge difference in grade pay between teachers in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere in India”.
“The grade pay of teachers in Jammu and Kashmir is Rs 2,800 while in other union territories it is Rs 5,000, Rs 4,800 and Rs 4,200. Hence this a discrimination,” Fayaz said .
He further said that Transfer Policy should be implemented on Grade II, teacher Grade III and RRTs as is applicable for general line teachers saying the former were working at the same place of posting for the last two decades.
The JKTA also demanded issuance of the pending transition orders in favour of the Grade II and Grade III teachers forth with.
