DDC kick starts FMD vaccination drive in Kulgam

KULGAM: The District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat today kick started the Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccination drive under National Animal Disease Control Programme here.
On the eve, the DDC also flagged-off Vaccination teams that will undertake vaccination of more than 110416 cattle and 1504 buffalos in the district on a mission mode and free of cost.
While speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the main aim and objective of this vaccination program is to control and eliminate foot and mouth disease.
He urged upon the vaccinating teams to work with added zeal and dedication to achieve cent percent target of vaccination, tagging and uploading of data in real time.
On the occasion CAHO Kulgam also highlighted achievements and future plans of the department and apprised the people about various schemes of the department. He added that presently the annual milk production of the district is 163.90 thousand tons.
While sharing the details about the programme, he said that FMD, vaccination is a two month long programme and all requisite arrangements have been put in place to vaccinate all the cattle and Buffalos in the district.
He added that besides vaccination all the cattle and buffalos are to be tagged and the data is to be uploaded on INAPH portal on real time basis.
All animal owners will be given animal health cards at the time of vaccination the CAHO added.
Later the DDC distributed android mobile tabs among the vaccinators and KCC sanction letters among dairy farmers.
Among others, CAHO, Dr Saleem and other officers and officials of the Animal Husbandry department were present on the occasion.
