NC MPs protest fake encounter, custodial killing in Parliament

New Delhi: National Conference (NC) president and MP from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday protested in front of the Gandhi statue in the foreground of Parliament House along with fellow party MP from Anantnag, Hasnain Masoodi, against recent alleged fake encounters and custodial killings in Kashmir.
Dr Abdullah and Masoodi held placards depicting the pictures of the slain men who were killed in the alleged Shopian fake encounter and the alleged Sopore custodial killing.
They said that the magisterial inquiries announced by J&K government are mere eyewash and a much more thorough probe is needed to establish the facts.
The MPs demanded filling of criminal cases as per the law of the land.
The NC had earlier expressed outrage against the alleged fake encounter in Shopian and the alleged custodial killing of a youth in Sopore. The party unequivocally asserted that such incidents would not help to bridge the widening gap of mistrust between the government and the people. Party MPs headed by party president Dr Farooq Abdullah had also called on the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to allow discussion on J&K in Parliament.
The party MPs also moved a calling attention motion in the Lok Sabha urging the Defence ministry to update the house on the status of the inquiry into the Shopian fake encounter. Party MPs also moved adjournment motion against the incidents, besides raising the issue during the zero hour of the parliamentary proceedings.
