20,000 grafted walnuts plants to be supplied to farmers for plantation: Director Horticulture

PAMPORE: Around 20,000 grafted walnuts plants will be supplied to orchardists from Zawoora Khanmoh nursery in 2022.
This was said by director horticulture, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat on Tuesday during a visit to the centre of Excellence and Walnut nursery in Zawoora Khunmoh area of Srinagar district.
He added that almost 30,000 seedlings have been produced in the Nursery which shall be grafted during coming season.
” it is expected that by 2022 around 20000 Grafted Walnut plants shall be made available to growers for plantation,” Aijaz Ahmad Bhat told Kashmir Reader.
He instructed the staff posted in the Nursery to work with zeal and ensure that 100% targets of plant production is achieved.
The walnut nursery at Zawoora is being established at a cost of Rs 498 Lac for the production of Budded/Grafted Walnut plants for which 20 high-tech Poly Green Houses have been established.
This initiative has been taken by the Horticulture Department for increasing Walnut production in Kashmir.
Director Horticulture Aijaz Ahmad Bhat also inspected the Centre of Excellence in Zawoora and was satisfied with root stokings of various varieties including Apple, Peach, Plum, Cherry and Apricoat.
