SRINAGAR: The department of Legal Metrology Srinagar received a complaint via telephone from a respectable citizen of the city that a Delhi based hardware firm is pre-packing pump spare-parts etc without adequate labeling of MRP and other relevant details. Under Legal Metrology Laws, it is mandatory to mention on the label – MRP (inclusive of taxes), month and year of manufacture, customer-care details, specifications of the hardware product, net contents so that the consumer may make a rational choice while buying the product.
The alleged firm has supplied the finished products to the retailers without giving the relevant information on the label. The case was registered against the firm and the notice was issued to the firm who in turn confessed the lapse and pleaded the department to settle the challan departmentally by compounding it.
The firm gave an undertaking that their future supplies to the valley shall carry all the mandatory declarations. A penal sum of Rs 15000/- was slapped on the firm for the lapse.
