Sand digger drowns in Jhelum near Kakapora, body retrieved

PULWAMA: A young sand digger drowned to death in Jhelum in Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday morning.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader that three sand diggers, who were extracting sand in Jhelum at Kakapora near a bridge, drowned after their boat capsized.
They added that soon police from police station Kakapora and police station Pampore and locals started rescue operation.
“Two of them were saved from drowning by the rescuers but the third couldn’t be saved,” they said.
The body of the third sand digger was later retrieved from Jhelum after three hours.
He was identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, 25, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh , resident of Larew Kakapora.
Meanwhile, hundreds of participated in the last rites of deceased young Sand digger.
