Srinagar: Maruti Suzuki is celebrating a brand new sales milestone for the Alto: The company announced it has now retailed over 40 lakh units of the car since its launch in India two decades ago. First launched here in the year 2000, Maruti Suzuki Alto has been the best-selling car in India for 16 years. The automaker noted that 76 per cent of the car’s customers chose it as their first car.
Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Alto has been ranked as the No.1 selling car in India for 16th year in a row and we are immensely proud to announce another remarkable milestone of 40 lakh cumulative sales. This has become a sales record never achieved by any other Indian car. Over the years, brand Alto has established a strong emotional connect with our customers and has become a strong symbol of Pride. We would like to dedicate this achievement to all our proud and happy Alto family members who have trusted and supported us in this journey to become India’s Favourite Car.”
Maruti Suzuki Alto sales milestone
Maruti Suzuki noted that Alto was also the first entry-level car in India to achieve BS6 compliant status. The car comes powered by 796 cc petrol engine that belts out a maximum power of 47 bhp at 6,000 rpm along with 69 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. Maruti Suzuki Alto’s fuel-efficiency is rated at 22.05 km/l for the petrol model and 31.56 km/kg for the CNG model.
