Man injured in bear attack in Handwara

BARAMULLA: A man was injured in a bear attack in Qalamabad area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday morning.
Sources said that a middle aged man identified as Mohammad Qasim Dar son of Gulam Hassan Dar resident of Manzpora Qalamabad was working at his orchards where a black bear attacked him.
The other people working around reached the spot and chased the bear, the injured was shifted to nearby healthcentre where from he was shifted to district hospital Handwara, and then to Srinagar for advanced treatment
The official sources said that a team of wildlife department reached the spot and launched a hunt to trace the black bear. “Soon after the incident we installed a cage in the area and our other officials started a search in nearby forest areas and hope we will catch the bear very soon” Habibullah block wildlife officer Handwara told Kashmir Reader.
