2 boys die after drowning in Anantnag

ANANTNAG: Two 10-year-old kids died after drowning while swimming in a canal here on Friday in Srigufwara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The kids have been identified as Waseem Dajad, son of Muhammad Ashraf and Abrar Khatana, son of Muhammad Hanief. Both were residents of Ashdar in Khiram area of Srigufwara.
A senior police official from the area told Kashmir Reader that the kids were going for classes at a local teacher’s house but stopped mid-way to take a bath in Dadi Canal that flows through the area.
“They drowned while they were taking a dip in the canal,” the official said, adding that a rescue team was immediately dispatched and both fished out.
They were taken to the hospital, the official said. “Unfortunately, however, both of them were declared brought dead at the Medical facility they were taken to,” the official said. Bodies of the kids have been handed over to the families for burial. Several cases of minors drowning and dying have come to fore in Kashmir valley in the last fortnight as the heat wave has intensified and the kids are tempted to take a dip.
