Agriculture Sub-division Keller organised Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition under “Kissan Pakhwada”

Shopian: Department of Agriculture, Sub-division Keller, District Shopian, organised one day Mega Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition as part of the ongoing “Kisan Pakhwada” at Sheep Husbandry complex Keller today.
Around three hundred farmers from all over the Sub-division participated in the event amid observance of all necessary SOPs & protocols regarding COVID-19.
District Development Commissioner, Shopian Mohammad Yasin Choudhary (IAS) inaugurated the event in presence of Joint Director Agriculture (PCM), Farooq Ahmad Shah. The event was also attended by the District Heads of all the allied departments, BDC Chairperson and PRI members.
In his inaugural address, DDC urged upon the farming community to adopt scientific techniques to enhance the production and productivity of crops and to make the District self-sufficient in food production. He urged the farmers to contact agriculture and allied departments for obtaining KCC in their favour so that they can avail Crop Loans and utilize the money for purchase of various inputs required for crop cultivation.
Joint Director Agriculture, Farooq Ahmad Shah while speaking on the occasion said that Sub-division has a good potential for vegetable cultivation and the department of Agriculture is working to improve their marketing. He advised farmers to approach the Agriculture Department for latest trends, techniques and schemes in the agriculture sector for their better crop yield and stressed that focus should be given to organic farming in order to produce safe food.
Earlier, the Chief Agriculture Officer Shopian Mukesh Kumar Verma in his welcome address briefed the objectives of the event. He asked the field functionaries of all the concerned departments to motivate the farmers to avail the KCC facility and to ensure cent percent saturation under the KCC scheme and PM Kisan. He stressed upon the field functionaries to carry out a door to door campaign in this regard so that the aim and objectives of this ongoing Kissan Pakhwada are achieved. Various other experts and officers from the Agriculture and allied department also addressed the farmers’ gathering.
