GF vows to fight backwardness, unemployment, social evils in Pulwama

PULWAMA: Gayoor Foundation ( GF) has vowed to fight backwardness, unemployment and other social evils in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
This was stated in an extraordinary meeting held by its core group members on Thursday at Pulwama under the chairmanship of Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi.
The members were apprised by the foundation’s Chairman that the organisation has been working in Kashmir for past ten years and its main focus has been on art, culture and literature.
“The Foundation provided a platform for many writers whose works were published through the organisation in the last couple of years,” Gayoor said. He asked suggestions from the members as to how the foundation can serve people in Pulwama beset with multiple bottlenecks visa viz development.
The members suggested that the foundation be made more vibrant in Pulwama and its ambit be diversified to address various issue plaguing the locality.
Abdul Majid Malik, one of the core group members, said that the foundation should be introduced to the local administration for seeking their cooperation in carrying out various activities at grass roots level.
Mudasir Ahmad Dar, another core group member, stressed that the foundation should use its influence in addressing issues concerning youth, particularly those belonging to Pulwama town and its peripherals.
“We must address the alarming rise in drug addiction cases in our society ; the foundation can raise awareness among youth and other community members,” he said.
Ghulam Mohammad Dar, another core group member of the foundation, told that the organisation can begin its social activism at a small level. “The other projects , which need finances, can be taken later on,” he said.
A core group member, Dr. Bilal suggested segregating activities. “We can submit our proposals to concerned government departments and seek their support,” he said.
“There are so many schemes being run by various government departments but the common man is not benefited due to lack of awareness, ” another member Rashid ud-Din said, adding that the foundation can raise awareness among masses involving the officials from concerned departments. He also suggested exploring avenues for opening new diagnostic institutions under public private partnership.
Ali Mohammad, another member sought the foundation to use its influence in giving impetus to developmental works in Pulwama town.
“After demolition of various shops, we were hoping that authorities will start working on drainage and other beautification projects of the town but nothing has been done so far,” he said.
Other members opined that the foundation should work in mitigating unemployment, which they believe, is the root cause of all social evils.
After hearing all the members, the chairman of the foundation, Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi, said that a plan will be enumerated to address these issues.
“The forum will work to fight backwardness, unemployment and other social evils,” he said.
