Baramulla: India and Pakistani troops on Thursday exchange a bout of heavy shelling across cross Machil area in north Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara.
Official sources in this side of Kashmir said that troops of Pakistan posted along the Line of Control (LOC) violated the ceasefire and targeted different Indian army posts in Machil sector of frontier district Kupwara on Thursday afternoon.
They added that the Indian army also retaliate and firing was continue for hours.
Srinagar based spokesperson of Indian army Lt col Rajash Kalia said that ” On 18 Jun 2020, in the afternoon hours, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) along the LoC in Macchal sector by firing mortars and other weapons. Benefiting response is being given” he said.
The area where the shelling took palce is a far flung and far from civilian habitation, due to which this reporter could not confirm the shelling independently, the army and police is the only source of information.
