‘Agriculture department creating market avenues for vegetable growers’

Srinagar: Keeping in view the importance of vegetable grower’s interest, Department of Agriculture Kashmir has taken pro active steps for marketing of their crops. These views were expressed by Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Andrabi while taking a meeting of various progressive vegetable growers of Pulwama District at meeting hall Agriculture Complex Lalmandi today.
Director said that Department is facilitating refrigerated vans for delivering quality and fresh vegetables to the consumers at their door steps, refrigerated vans are loaded directly from the fields of farmers from various districts of Kashmir province. Hence would be price competitive which could provide relief to consumers amid covid-19 crises.
Director Agriculture said that main aim of facilitating refrigerated vans is to ensure that the growers get maximum reach out to the market to increase their income. Director said the Department is committed to promote the vegetable sector of valley for fulfilling domestic requirement and could create surplus vegetables which could be transported to national as well as international market.
Pertinent to mention that various vegetable crops like Knol-Khol, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Lettuce, etc. are being harvested in the valley.
Earlier representatives of progressive growers were satisfied with the steps taken up by the Department for uplifting the vegetable sector of the valley, and thanked for initiating this noble cause. They raised few issues regarding transportation and marketing of their produce. Director assured them that the Department will settle their genuine demands at an earliest.
Among others Deputy Director Agriculture (Central) Dr. Syed Waseem Ahmad Shah, Nodal officer Agriculture Market Linkage Shams-ul-Hassan Mir and other senior officers of the Department were also present in the meeting.
