‘Amid lockdown provide ration to nomad community in valley’

PAMPORE: General Secretary Gujjar and Bakerwal Association Mohammad Yaseen Poswal has urged the authorities to provide ration and other necessary items to the nomad people who have been putting up in Kashmir valley amid lockdown. He told Kashmir Reader that amid lockdown days shops are closed and it has become difficult for these families to survive and has made many people to take to begging.

He said that many people had contacted him about the non availability of ration in their families and how they were being left out by the authorities in these hard days. “We have contacted Director Food and Supplies for the purpose and hope that the nomad people will get ration soon,” he said , adding that the local lumberdars and Chokidars should be roped in so that nobody in these destitute families dies of hunger. Many nomads particularly belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal nomadic tribes migrate to Kashmir valley during summer months. Some even have set up permanently and are putting up in kahcharai and state lands in different parts of Kashmir valley.
