BPL families to get free ration for next 3 months

SRINAGAR: Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholders will get free ration in J&K from next week for the period of three months after the announcement was made by the government of India in wake of Covid-19 lockdown. 5 kgs of ration to per person per household will be given under PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana for next three months to the poor beneficiaries covered under National food security Act (NFSA) to ensure availability food to poor people during the lockdown. Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs (FCS&CA) department, Bashir Ahmad Khan told Kashmir Reader that the free ration for the BPL and AAY ration cards holders will be given for the three months as per the government orders. “If any ration cards holders have five members in his family, he will be given 25 kg of rice as per the total persons in the family,” he said He said that presently they are distributing the normal ration to the people. The distribution of free ration will be started from 19th or 20th April, he added.
