SHOPIAN: Day after the district administration served notice to the people in Shopian to clear cow dung waste, polythene and garbage from their surroundings to combat Covid-19 outbreak, many residents were seen collecting waste from streets and water bodies in a view to keep the environment clean.
Locals from different areas told Kashmir Reader over phone that government officials visited several areas and made announcement to clear the waste.
Earlier on Tuesday, district administration advised people to clear the waste near water bodies and roads within two days or face consequences. Village heads, Numberdars and Chowkidars were told to make sure the order is implemented.
The move was lauded by people who widely shared the government notice and said action should be taken against the violators in future.
Many concerned citizens from different areas brought the issue in notice of Deputy Commissioner and other concerned officials for initiating action.
