Akbar Lone calls for release of Kashmiri detainees in Parliament

NEW DELH: National Conference leader and member of Parliament Muhammad Akbar Lone on Tuesday raised the issue of release of Kashmiri detainees languishing in prisons in and outside J&K.
The statement issued by party said, “While speaking in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Lone said majority of people who are languishing in jails outside J&K come from poorer families. Their families are worried for them, due to the economic constraints, they cannot visit their loves ones outside state. The Corona sprawl is also one of the reasons they cannot think of moving outside home. I therefore impress upon the home minister to ensure release of all detainees without any delay. Any further delay will push the families of those languishing in jails to undue trepidation. Moreover there can be no total redemption of situation unless all detainees are released fore with.”
Another National Conference Member of Parliament Hasnain Masoodi while speaking in the Lok Sabha sought a comprehensive economic package for the rehabilitation of tourism industry in J&K.
“Party’s Member of Parliament said the tourism industry in J&K in particular the Valley has suffered major reverses due to the tumultuous situation and unremitting internet blockage for seven months,” it reads.
“Tourism industry in J&K is one of the most critical sectors that provide employment to lakhs of people who are associated with it. The people associated with tourism sector are living hand to mouth. The tumultuous situation in J&K in particular the valley has rendered all the people associated with it hopeless and destitute. So far the tourism industry has suffered from Rs 20,000 crore losses according to various estimations emanating from the industry and other sources. The people associated with the trade have set their eyes on the government for necessary succor to help them stand back on their feet,” they said, adding, “Railways could play a pivotal role in bringing various tourist destinations on the tourism map of India. The government is already done with the survey of rail routes to other areas, yet nothing substantial is being done to visualize the dream of having major tourist destinations of state on national railway map.”
He also sought railway link from Jammu to Poonch, Qazigund to Pahalgam and Baramulla to Lolab.
