Non-local beggars flock to north Kashmir amid coronavirus worries

BARAMULLA: While district administrations in three districts of north Kashmir closed schools, colleges, tuition centres and other institutions in wake of coronavirus pandemic all over the world, a large number of non-local beggars are flocking this region with the onset of spring season.
Locals said that they are worried that non-local beggars are coming to Baramulla, Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara, and Bandipora and “nobody is checking where they are living and who owns their responsibility”.
They said that most of the beggars are coming without being tested and are living in private houses.
People asked why the administration is not testing these beggars.
Every year thousands of non-local beggars and workers come to northern region of Kashmir to earn livelihood.
People appealed to district administrations to conduct medical check-ups of all non-local beggars and other visitors in the region.
