Rains lash Kashmir, more expected over next 3 days

SRINAGAR: Rains lashed plains as well as upper reaches in Kashmir on Wednesday leading to dip in mercury. The Srinagar-Jammu highway, which was closed for traffic after landslides occurred a day ago, was restored for stranded vehicles.
Deputy Director Metrological department Mukhtar Ahmad told Kashmir Reader rains and moderate snowfall would commence at few places of the Kashmir valley from March 5. This may gain intensity between March 6 and March 7, he said
“There is a possibility of the hail and thunderstorm as well. The will also be a drop in day temperature which was significantly improving over the last two weeks,” he added.
An official from the traffic control unit Ramban told Kashmir Reader the landslide which occurred on Tuesday at Peedha in Ramban area was fully cleared on Wednesday. The vehicles which were stranded on the highway were allowed to ply on Wednesday, he added.
According to him, traffic from Srinagar to Jammu will be allowed to ply on the highway.
Meanwhile, several areas in north Kashmir witnessed strong winds or windstorm with light rains on Wednesday evening. Rainfall had also started in several areas.
Reports reaching from several areas of Baramulla, including Tangmarg, Sopore, Rafiabad, Narvaw and Uri, said that light rains had started on Wednesday evening and strong cool winds were blowing in several areas. The weather conditions had made locals anxious but no untoward incident was reported from any area.
