Locals lock Tral govt school over lack of staff

TRAL: Residents of Doodhmarg Gujjar Basti Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Tuesday locked down government high School here decrying deficiency of staff in the school.
The residents locked the school and staged peaceful protest infront of school building and said that authorities were making mockery of the underprivileged class living in the far flung areas of the Tral division.
“The school has 170 students, but only six teachers posted there,” said Mohammad Abdullah , adding that the 9th and tenth classes suffer the most.
The residents told Kashmir Reader that the school was upgraded under RMSA in 2014, but there has always been a dearth of staff in the school.
“Most of the catchment area of the school is the schedule tribe population who have been left behind in education,” said a father of one of the students.
Zonal Education Officer told Kashmir Reader that up-gradation of the school has been kept in limbo by higher authorities.
“The staff members in the school are the ones working under sanctioned staff to it,” said ZEO, adding that it has been the main constraint in making the school staff sufficient.
He assured the dearth in staff would be resolved after March 15.
“There are many more schools in Sub division Tral which have either dearth of staff or do not have sufficient classrooms to function smoothly,” locals said.
