Anganwadi workers stage protest, demand release of pending honorarium

SRINAGAR: Anganwadi workersworking in Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) on the post of helpers to supervisors on Tuesday held a protest here in Srinagar demanding release of their pending honorarium.
The protesters from various districts of Kashmir valley assembled here under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi workers and Helpers Union and chanted slogans – “ release our 14 month pending honorarium”, “we women’s are without honorarium”, “Ittihaad-E- MulaazmeenZindabaad” and “we want justice”.
They said that they are working in ICDS department from last 15 years on the post of the helpers to supervisors in various districts of the Kashmir valley, but their honorarium is pending from last 14 months.
Farida Akthar, working in ICDS department on the post of helpers to supervisors said they are 750 women’s in Jammu and Kashmir who are working in the posts of the helpers to supervisors in the department.
“We are doing the field work in the department.We are attending our duties regularly, but are without honorarium,” she said.
“From time to time we have approached to the concerned officials and districts programme officers to release our honorarium, but it is an unfortunate that no one is paying heed towards us”, said MahajbeenaBano, another protestor.
“We are facing the financial crisis. Most of the womens are fully dependent upon this income,” she said.
They said that the government should increase their monthly honorarium upto Rs 21,000 and should release it on monthly basis.
They requested Lt Governor to look into the matter and release their pending honorarium.
