251 armed forces’ personnel killed in J&K in past 3 yrs: Govt

Srinagar: Minister of State (Mos) for Defence Shripad Naik on Monday said in Parliament that 251 armed forces’ personnel and 118 civilians were killed in various militant incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the past three years.
In response to a question, the minister said that 80 armed forces’ personnel and 40 civilians were killed in 2017, 91 personnel and 39 civilians in 2018, and 80 armed forces’ personnel and 39 civilians were killed in 2019.
To another question asked by Ambika Soni, as to whether there were any guidelines for payment of compensation to the personnel of armed forces who died while on duty and those killed in action, the minister said that Rs 25 lakh is paid as compensation for “death in the course of duties attributable to acts of violence by (militants) and Rs 35 lakh in death occurring during enemy action in war or border skirmishes or in action against militants, etc.”
The minister also said that 138 cases of infiltration by militants along Line of Control and International Border took place during the year 2019.
“Due to concerted and synergised efforts of security forces, 157 (militants) were killed in the year 2019 in Jammu & Kashmir,” the minister added.
