18 years on, Baramulla’s Jetty bridge await completion

BARAMULLA: In another instance of official apathy, Baramulla’s Jetty bridge is awaiting completion for eighteen years. The construction work on thisbridge at Khawaja baghwas initiated in 2002.
Locals said that the construction work of Jetty bridge was started before 18 years which is going on atsnail’s pace, resulting in inconvenience to public of Kupwara, Handwara, Rafiabad and Baramulla.
Syeed Fayaz Ahmad, a local said that the construction of the bridge was initiated in the year 2002, but the work was suspended frequently due to paucity of funds. He said the work of bridge is going on under the supervision of J&K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) which has failed to complete the bridge after spending crores of rupees on it.
The motive behind the construction of the bridge was to divert the traffic movement from Kupwara, Handwara and Rafiabad towards Srinagar and other areas without Baramulla market, mostly the army convoy from Srinagar to Kupwara and Handwara, otherwise all the traffic movement is through Baramulla market which is main cause of traffic jam in Baramulla market.
