Hizb militant arrested in Baramulla

19 local militants active in north Kashmir: Police

Baramulla: Police on Saturday said that a militant affiliated with Hizbul Mujahiden was arrested by the joint team of forces on Friday in Pattan area of Baramulla.
Addressing a presser DIG Baramulla Mohammad Suleman Choudhary said that police on Friday received specific information about the movement of an active militant Junaid Farooq Pandith of Hamray Pattan.
He said that a joint team of forces including police, army and CRPF laid a checkpoint at Tapar crossing on Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
During checking one person coming from Kreeri road tried to run away from the spot, he said. However, forces chased him and arrested him. During interrogation, he revealed his name as Junaid Farooq Pandith alias Abu Talha son of Farooq Ahmad Pandit of Hamray Pattan. He was affiliated with Hizb.
The official said that a pistol and 13 live rounds were recovered from his possession.
The arrested militant had joined the militant ranks last year in June and his photograph showing him clutching a rifle was released on social media.
Meanwhile, the DIG Baramulla who was accompanied with SSP Baramulla Abdul Qayoom said that 19 local militants are active in three districts of north Kashmir- Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora.
