MeT predicts rains, snow in Valley

Srinagar: Rains lashed Kashmir on Wednesday as Meteorological department predicted light snow in upper reaches and rains in plains for next 24 hours.
Director MeT Srinagar Sonum Lotus said that there will be rains in plains and snowfall in the higher reaches of the Kashmir valley. He said that Ladakh will experience light snowfall.
According to him weather will remain dry for a week from February 23.
Lotus said that places in the plains of Jammu may experience thunderstorms on Thursday, the official added.
The rains may lead to landslides in Banihal-Ramban axis leading to temporary disruptions of surface transportation, Lotus said.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar and elsewhere rains lashed Valley bringing down mercury.
According to weather official, Srinagar’s day temperature was 11.9 degree Celsius while the night temperature was 0.7 degree. At Qazigund the day temperature settled at 13 degree Celsius while night temperature was minus 0.5.
Pahalgam recorded minus 2 degree Celsius in night while Kupwara’s night temperature was recorded at minus 2.2 in night.
Similarly, Gulmarg’s night temperature was minus 3.4 degree Celsius.
