SMC mulls to built 2 fountains in each ward

Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has cleared a major project for beautification of the city.
Giving details of the project, an official said that 148 fountains will be constructed in the coming months in Srinagar. The fountains will come up in all 74 wards of the city, he said.
This means each ward will have two fountains.
“We have also got also approval procurement of 2500 pushcarts 195, hooper vehicles, 2,800 new compactor bins for enhanced waste management for door-to-door waste collection,” the official said.
Besides, according to him, the SMC is also planning to purchase 38 sweeping and vacuum machines, 15 water-sprinkling tankers for dust control.
The much required 3 lakh twin-coloured dustbin pairs for Srinagar to segregate waste at the source is also part of the project.
He also informed that SMC has got approval for purchasing 20 vehicles for snow clearance operations in city; while as same vehicles can be used maintaining public parks during summers.
“The proposal was approved during a recent meeting of Finance and Planning Standing Committee which was held in Srinagar,” the official added.
The other projects approved include high quality lights for 370 graveyards and cremation grounds.
These projects are not part of Rs 45 lakh budget granted to each ward in the city.
“The budget for developmental works would be identified by corporators in their respective wards,” the official said.
