Hopeful of peaceful summer in Valley this year: DGP

Srinagar: Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said on Wednesday that they expect the upcoming summer in the Valley will be peaceful.
“We are hopeful that the situation will remain peaceful,” he told reporters shortly after two militants were killed in a shoot-out on Srinagar outskirts.
According to him 20 militants had been killed in J&K this year so far adding that the operations had been successful as many militant modules had been busted.
Giving details ab0ut Lawaypora shoot-out on Srinagar outskirts, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that three militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen and Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir had carried out the attack on the special party of the forces at Lawaypora in Srinagar outskirts.
The trio, Kumar said, was involved in several militancy related incidents for which many cases stand filed against them.
“This incident establishes the belief that the different militant outfits are working in tandem (to carry out attacks),” Kumar said.
Additional DG CRPF, Zulfikar Hassan said on the occasion that the scooter borne militants had opened fire on the special party of the forces deployed on the Srinagar-Baramulla road.
He said that the party was deployed in view of intelligence inputs about a possible militant attack along the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
According to him, forces involved in Wednesday’s operation had “showed a gallant act by averting a major incident in the city and shall be appropriately rewarded”.
“In view of a heavy traffic on the highway, there was a controlled firing and the forces were very conscious of the fact that no civilian was injured,” Hassan added.
